Enjoy an evening with the Ohio State Chorale and the Women's Glee Club. Conductors Robert J. Ward (Chorale) and Jordan Saul (Women's Glee); collaborative pianists Casey Cook and Diana Chubak.
The Chorale will preview the program it will present at the 2027 OMEA conference. The program opens with “Alleluia,” Jake Runestad; then “Serenade to Music,” Ralph Vaughan Williams, featuring Andrii Isakov, violin; and concluding with “Music of the Spheres,” Brant Adams. “Spheres” was commissioned for the opening of the Timashev Family Music Building.
Women's Glee Club presents "Vox Humana." Vox humana means "the human voice," and every piece on this program explores what that voice can do: how it breathes, how it reaches out, and how it joins with others. Johannes Brahms' music for treble choir is paired with the Ohio State Double Reeds, instruments long praised for sounding like singing. Craig Courtney's new work, The Embrace, is performed with the composer at the piano; it speaks to the human need for connection. Adelaide Kawakami, an alumna of the School of Music, contributes a new setting of Florence and the Machine's "Breath of Life," a reminder that every epic musical journey begins with a single breath. Join WGC for this program devoted to the wonders of the voice: the most human instrument of all.
This concert is free and open to the public. No ticket required.
